James Dondero is a Chief executive Officer and the Co- founder of Highland Capital Management. The company is based in Dallas and ranks top in terms of experience in investment management. Founded in 1993, Highland Capital Management has maintained a lead in developing credit solutions to investors internationally, for both institutions and individual investors. James Dondero started off his career as an analyst in Morgan Guaranty training Program in the year 1984. He graduated from University of Virginia, attaining highest honors (Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta alpha psi).
Prior to graduating with majors in both Accounting and Finance from McIntire School of Commerce, Dondero is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), earning the right to access the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also the chairman of Nexbank, Cornerstone HealthCare and CCS medical. He is a board member of MGM Studios and American Banknote. Mr. Dondero, through his expertise skills and knowledge, as the Chief Investment Officer, helped to build GIC subsidiary of protective life from the start into $2 billion between the years 1989 to 1993.
In the year 1985 to 1989, James Dondero worked as a Corporate Bond Analyst, and later as Portfolio Manager at American Express. Mr. Dondero is very active in supporting Dallas community-based initiatives, mostly education, healthcare, and veteran initiatives. He is passionate in charitable giving, focusing majorly on non-profit organizations. Highland Capital Management has partnered with large non-profit organizations such as The Dallas Foundation to manage its annual charity budget of over $3 million.
The Dallas Foundation, recently worked with Dondero to hire a former Chief executive Officer of Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, to work in the company and exclusively focus on Highland Foundation Inc. Her experience and relationship with her former company will be a major advantage in her new role at The Dallas Foundation on focusing on Dondero’s vision of connecting with non-profit organizations that work to improve the standards of life in North Texas community. Highland Capital Management specializes in credit hedge funds, long-only funds, and special situation accounts, private equity and collateralised loan obligations (CLOs).
