Before he began managing businesses in the tourism industry, he went to IBM to become an intern. He wanted to learn more about the business world, and he took notes as his colleagues were leading him into the life inside the company. After he finished the internship, he decided to venture into different businesses, and at the age of 24, he had an idea to create a tour operator business. He needs to look for a business partner, and a Brazilian politician willingly listened to his business proposal. Guilherme Paulus got the interest of the Brazilian politician, and they became business partners. Together, they established the CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A. in 1972, and it provided tour operator services to tourists visiting Brazil and its neighboring countries.
Four years after the company was established, his business partner decided to quit, leaving the business solely in his hands. Guilherme Paulus managed it effectively, and the company became the leading provider of tour operator services in the Latin American region. In 2005, he decided to enter the hospitality industry, building a chain of hotels and resorts called the GJP Hotels and Resorts. He built his properties near the airports, and it was an effective strategy as tourists are choosing his hotels and resorts over its competitors. The business flourished, and today it has 15 branches all over the country.
In 2009, a multinational conglomerate called the Carlyle Group had taken an interest with the CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A. They purchased 63.6% of the company and helped Guilherme Paulus in managing his firm. In 2014 and 2016, two major sporting competitions were held in Brazil, and it resulted in the influx of tourists visiting the country. He saw it as an opportunity, and he ended up earning a lot of money because of hotel bookings and the use of tour operator services.
