    Esso - E3: E-Day Mixtape

    May 22nd, 2008

Here it is, Esso’s newest project “E3: E-Day” hosted by former Atlantic Records A&R Sickamore and XXL Magazine’s DJ Rhude.

Not E-Day in the B-Day sense but more like E-Day in the D-Day sense. Normandy, June 6th 1944…the beginning of the end of World War II. Sometimes this game can feel like a war and as artists we’re all fighting for our stripes and medals and the respect of the people to the left and right of us. Some of us end up war heroes, some end up POW’s, some go AWOL, some MIA and then of course there are the casualties. Link and Video after the jump.

Akon Responds To His Fake Konvict Past

    May 18th, 2008

Some months ago The Smoking Gun published a report about Akon, claiming he fabricated his past of jail. Now he addresses those claims with an interview on MTV. Here is what he said:

It’s an article. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and views. At the end of the day, the Konvict movement is keeping me out of jail. It’s nothing I want to glorify or go back to. Honestly, I’m glad something like that came out, because it opens the minds of other people who’re thinking positive.

We’re doing so many positive things. To go back and focus and put energy on negative things like that, to try to discredit an artist, it makes no sense to me. If there was a motive for it, it would be worth entertaining. I’d rather keep it the way it is and leave the article out there. It only helps me. It’s not something I was trying to glorify or turn back to. It was something I was trying to forget. Actually, it worked out for me in a positive way.”

At the end of the day: who cares? Just drop hot music and it’s ok. A clip of the interview after the jump.

Foxy Brown Is Devasted About Her Own Album

    May 16th, 2008

    Foxy Brown

Brooklyn’s Don Diva is not a good cd and everybody knows it. Even herself, Foxy Brown is “devasted” by it and she states that it had supposed to be a street album and not a retail. She made a statement via Miss Info:

I heard this CD in its entirety for the first time just days ago and was devastated. Riddled with grief over an album that was seemingly so carelessly orchestrated, I sat down with the president of Koch to come to a decision on how to make the best of this situation. In another phase of my life and career I would have dealt with this situation with litigation, but for the benefit of my fans and in the wake of the profound spiritual cleansing I recently underwent in prison, I made the decision to settle our creative difference amicably. My fans have waited seven years for an in-store release and deserve my very best.”

Now Koch Records will re-release the album next month with five new tracks, videos and a little bit of promotions.

I guess what records could make the cd better…

    Suge Knight Knocked Out

    May 12th, 2008

Hip-Hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was assaulted and involved in an altercation with an unknown man in front of a Hollywood nightclub last night (May 10).

Knight was at Shag nightclub when he began arguing with another man, reportedly over money.

According to reports, Knight and his entourage assaulted the man, who managed to land a blow which knocked Knight unconscious for almost three minutes.

An unknown woman who attempted to commandeer an SUV and transport Knight to the hospital struck the vehicles in front and in back of her, before security removed her from the driver’s seat.

Knight was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor wounds.

He did not file a police report and allegedly refused to cooperate with Los Angeles Police Department officers. Source

First off, Suge Knightis a huge dude, so whoever was able to knock him out must of been a beast.

    UPDATE:

New details have emerged in the altercation that left Death Row Records Founder Suge Knight bruised, bloodied, and unconscious outside of a Los Angeles nightclub this weekend.

According to TMZ, Knight and his entourage beat down an unidentified man after the two were involved in a heated argument reportedly over money.

Sources tell TMZ the man managed to get up afterwards and land a punch on Suge’s chin, knocking him out for nearly three minutes.

Latest rumors indicate that Suge may have been involved in two separate altercations within a matter of minutes. In one of the scenarios, a suspect with the man who received the beat down from Knight and his crew may have been the one who delivered the blow with a weapon. Another rumor suggests that a group of spectators may have gotten involved and played a role in Suges injuries.

TMZ has released some new photos of the incident which can be seen by clicking on the link below. Source

    Jay-Z, Live Nation Deal Complete

    May 2nd, 2008

Live Nation closed the Jay-Z 360-degree deal Wednesday night (April 30), sources say.

The company yesterday (May 1) filed a Form-8K with the SEC which states that the artist is getting 775,434 Live Nation shares, plus an option on an additional 500,000 with the exercise price of $13.73. The shares go to Marcy Media, the company affiliated with Jay-Z (born Shawn Carter), in connection with the formation of Roc Nation LLC, a joint entertainment venture between Live Nation and Jay-Z.

Talk that Live Nation and Jay-Z were on the verge of closing a major deal began last December and broke April 2 in The New York Times. The roughly $150 million pact includes Roc Nation, as well as the rapper’s own recordings and tours for the next 10 years.

Live Nation will reportedly contribute $5 million each year in overhead for five years and offer $25 million to finance Jay-Z’s external acquisitions and investments, plus $10 million per album for a minimum of three albums within the deal’s term. Jay-Z will also receive another $20 million for other rights including publishing and licensing. Live Nation is already producing the current Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige tour, which is putting up sellout numbers.

The Jay-Z deal follows major, multifaceted pacts Live Nation has struck with Madonna and U2. Speculation is that other mega-deals are also pending, ranging from developing artist the Zac Brown Band, to superstar artists like Michael W. Smith and Shakira. Source
