While capturing any outdoor events during midday or when there is harsh sunlight, what's the best way to capture pictures? Same Side to SUN or opposite to SUN? Because I took this picture Same side of sun to avoid shadows on faces, but it got highlights, which I edited them post. Any Suggestions?

Any recommendations/feedback on composition and capturing things in focus? Thoughts on composition of the bridge? Also tried to capture the bent road and the whole sky in to capture in focus(using hyperlocal length), Any such suggestions to improve this capture?
